About Fresno Pacific University
Fresno Pacific University (FPU) was originally established as the Pacific Bible Institute in Fresno, California in 1944 by the Pacific District Conference of Mennonite Brethen Churches. The University operated initially with 5 staff members and 28 students from a large home in San Francisco before moving to a former YCMA building in the second academic year. In 1958, the university purchased 50-acres land where the current campus is built and started construction of a new classes building and two dormitory buildings. The classes building was finished in 1959 while construction of the dorms was delayed because of shortage of financial resources. FPU awarded the bachelor degree for the first time in 1965 while it offered the first master’s program in 1975.
The main campus of the university is located in Fresno at the Central Valley region of California. Additionally, FPU has four regional campuses in California; Merced campus, North Fresno, Visalia campus and Bakersfield campus. Since the inauguration of the main campus in 1959, the university construction of new buildings continued at the campus that were named in honor of distinctive people as Krause Hall, Nachtigall Hall, Schlichting Hall, Warkentine Hall, Hiebert Library, Marpeck Center, Kriegbaum Hall, Bartsch Hall, Wiebe Education Center, McDonald Hall, Steinert Campus Center and the North Hall which is the latest building in the campus finished in 2010. The official colors of the campus are blue and orange and its mascot is the sunbird. The university athletic teams compete in the Pacific West Conference of the NCAA division II.
FPU offers undergraduate degrees in 39 majors and more than 100 areas of study and offers 45 graduate degree programs through 5 different schools. Some degrees are also offered through online mode of study. The programs are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. FPU was ranked 26th by U.S. News & World report college ranking in the Western United States among the Universities-Master’s Category.
