Florida National University-Main Campus About Florida National University-Main Campus

Florida National University (FNU) has been established in 1993 as a for-profit college by Dr. José Regueiro, Mrs. María C. Regueiro and Mr. Omar Sánchez. It has two campuses; the main campus in Hialeah and the south campus in St Miami, Florida. Additionally, FNU has a separate training center in Hialeah. The University is currently administred by a board of governors consisting of two chairpersons, three permanent members, three non-permanent members in addition to an honorary member.

FNU main campus is covers around 56,000 sq.ft. with a four story building that includes various labs, a media center, reception area and the administrative offices. The south campus occupies around 25,000 sq.ft. located on the top of a large shopping mall. In 2013, the university initiated a basketball team under the nickname Conquistadors. In the same year, Florida International University sued FNU for the similarity of their names; however, it lost the lawsuit.

In 1997, the college received its first accreditation from SACS. The accreditation was reaffirmed five years later. In 2008, the university was awarded a more advanced degree level (II) accreditation allowing it to offer baccalaureate degrees. Four years later the university received accreditation to offer more advanced degree programs and changed its name from Florida National College to its current name. Currently FNU offers 10 undergraduate degree, 3 master degree, 25 associate degree, 9 diploma and 8 certificate programs. The university also offers distant learning undergraduate, master and associate degree programs. FNU offers more than 20 scholarship programs. Students are allowed to apply to only one of these scholarships each time. Some scholarships require minimum of society service hours by the students while others are based on academic or athletic achievements.
