CUNY Queens College Seal About CUNY Queens College

QC is a public four year college that was established in 1937 following the need for a free public higher education as suggested by the committee appointed by the County Judge Charles S. Colden in 1935. The site for the college was selected in 1937, that had previously housed Jamaica Academy and New York Parental School and so it began. The college is part of the City University of New York system.

Queens College is based in New York City, New York and offers an up to date and relevant liberal arts and sciences curriculum, with the purpose of producing professionals and scholars who are rich in intellect and experiences, and are able to meet the globally evolving challenges.

In order to serve its purpose, the campus life at QC is a mix of academic as well as extracurricular activities designed to develop students inside and outside classrooms. As students make it to the college, they are introduced around through the Welcome Week, a fun filled event, involving food, dances and other activities. Further ahead, there are over 100 student clubs and organisations which bring social and interpersonal relation development as students pursue their interests.  There is also the Student Association which is primarily responsible for working for student interests, as a bridge between the college administration and the students. It also provides for students to hold offices and work on their leadership development while also sponsoring Greek Life on campus. Students are also encouraged to pursue arts enthusiastically, in the form of theatre, dance, music, films, reading series and various other performances and activities. There are college 19 varsity teams, and athletic participation at NCAA Division II. The official colors are Red and Black and the mascot is ’Knight’.

The academic offerings include Bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in over 170 areas. Its prominent facilities are Benjamin Rosenthal Library, Godwin-Ternbach Museum, Aaron Copland School of Music Remsen Hall, Selma and Max Kupferberg Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, Godwin-Ternbach Museum, the Louis Armstrong House Museum, John D. Calandra Italian American Institute, John Cardinal Newman Club and others.
