CityTech as it is known, is a public institute and is part of the City University of New York. It was founded in 1946 as New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences following the need for trained professionals in the field of business and industry. In 1961 it was made into technical institute through amendment in charter and by 1964 was made part of the CUNY.

It is based in Downtown Brooklyn, New York, and it was named as New York City College of Technology in 2002. With a strong foundation of liberal arts curriculum, this college of technology beings education and training integrated in technological advancements and resulting in skill development and career preparation.

Campus life at CityTech is filled with student activities and opportunities. The Office of Student Life and Development (SLD) brings activities and developmental programs such as supporting more than 75 student led cubs and organisation present on campus working as social and learning units. There is also the Student Government Association (SGA) that works to provide a better campus life to all students by removing grievances, voicing student concerns and organising events such as cultural activities, fairs, dances and many other. Students clubs along with the student government provide excellent chances for anyone wishing to learn and utilise their leadership skills. This skill development comes with community and civic service as students put in their volunteering hours to serve their communities outside of ethnicity, race, religion and other factors and display their true spirit of leadership. These also engage in advocating and creating awareness regarding social issues. For students interested in arts, there is gallery that exhibits artistic work and there is the theatre production company that brings performances in collaboration of students, faculty and community members. The college has its athletic teams participating at NCAA Division III and are called ‘Yellow Jackets’. The official campus colors are Blue and Gold.

Academic programs offered are undergraduate programs consisting of 27 associate and 26 baccalaureate degree programs in over 10 disciplines. Its prominent facilities are Ursula C. Schwerin Library and Grace Gallery.
