CUW is a private liberal arts college that was founded in the year 1881 by the Lutherans. It began as Concordia College and held its first classes in the basement of Trinity Lutheran Church, however within a year it found its permanent home. It altered its academic programs to offering high school and college programs after receiving charter from the State of Wisconsin. By 1978 it became a four year accredited college.

Within a decade, in 1989 it was approved for university status by Board of Regents and so became Concordia University Wisconsin. Based in Mequon, Wisconsin, the institute is on the mission to provide Christian leaders through provision of education and development of mind and heart on the values of service and commitment to people and purpose in life.

AT CUW, the students get more than just a Christian life. Life begins with Student Government Association which acts as the hub of student activities; it works as a student voice on campus. Taking part in SGA also provides the opportunity to learn office running skills. There are also over 30 student run clubs and organisation. Students also find themselves taking part in performing arts and creative activities around the campus. There are visual arts, music and theatre where students display their talents. There is Campus Activities Board which puts up events all year round, some of which are unique to the university; these are Gingerbread House competition, Casino Night, Movie Nights, Skyzone Trampoline Park and Amazing Race! In all the fun and entertainment, Christian life is not forgotten and students connect with their spirituality through Daily Chapel sessions. Community service takes place in the form of volunteering activities, blood drives, mission service, campus ministry activities and the likes. The university has athletic teams, called Falcons, participating at NCAA division III. The campus mascot is Freddy the Falcon and the colors are Blue and White.

Academic programs at CUW are undergraduate programs with 77 majors, 42 graduate programs including Masters and four Doctorate and Professional degree programs. Its notable departments and facilities are Batterman School of Business and Rincker Memorial Library
