College of Mount Saint Vincent Seal About College of Mount Saint Vincent

CMSV is a private institute and a catholic liberal arts college that was founded in the year 1847. The same year after its founders Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul of New York was established as an independent body, they went to establish a higher education institute for women, called Academy of Mount Saint Vincent. It was the first institute offering higher education to women in New York.

It gradually made attempts to broaden its academic base and by 1911, in accordance with amendment in its carter it was renamed as College of Mount Saint Vincent. Based in Riverdale, New York City, New York, the College has its traditions in Catholic and ecumenism and aims to foster the development of individuals, their knowledge, skills and successful careers.

CMSV presents a vibrant and exciting campus life, filled with student activities and opportunities promoting fun as well as learning. There are more than 25 student clubs and organisations present on campus which provide students with a social platform and are a good way to begin extracurricular activities. Student Government Association acts as student representative and improves the overall experience through voicing concerns and also providing chance for students to learn leadership and serve others. Serving people also takes place with students engaging with the community by fighting hunger and homelessness, educating the underprivileged youth, creating awareness and other volunteering opportunities working alongside off campus non-profit organisations. The campus ministry arranges mission trips for the communities, where students are part of volunteering services but also connect with religion. Entertainment and relaxation comes in the form of events held annually such as 200 Nights, Springfest, DREAM Weekend and others. The college has its athletic programs, its teams participating at NCAA Division III. Its mascot is ‘Dolphin’ and its colors are White and Gold.

The academic programs offered consist of undergraduate programs and Bachelor’s programs with more than 70 areas of study, Master’s programs and Post-Master’s Certificate. Its notable facilities are Rosary Hall, Grace Center, Elizabeth Seton Library, Marillac Hall and Spellman Hall.
