About College of Central Florida
CF is a public state college that was established in the year 1957 as Central Florida Junior College with the purpose of providing educational opportunities to Citrus, Levy and Marion counties in the state. Instructions at the college began a year later in 1958. In 1966, this junior college merged with another college in the region, Hampton Junior College. In 1971, the institute became Central Florida Community College.
It was in 2010, that the college adopted its present name, College of Central Florida. Part of the Florida College System, CF presently has campuses and centers throughout the three counties. The college is on a mission to equip its students with the best of education in order to empower them as leaders and engage them with their communities.
Student life at the CF is comprehensive, focusing on not just academic needs of the students but also nurturing them and providing resources for physical wellbeing and healthy social and community interaction. Students actively take part in student formed groups and clubs which not only serves as social platforms, but help in developing a variety of interests and a way to learn leadership skills. Students also help arrange events and activities on campus. Arts and culture is particularly celebrated at the campus, where students bring events such as poetry series, theatre performances, film series and other such to the campus. There is also the museum and art gallery, housed by the college which further provide creative display and collection of artists. Students are further assisted in their academic endeavours by being provided with professional help through Career Services, which not only brings potential job opportunities and internships but also prepares its students for the positions through mock interviews, writing help and more. CF has its athletic teams, that take part in NJCAA Region 8 and its teams are called ‘Patriots’.
Academic programs at CF consist of more than 30 programs along with Associate of Arts with over 50 choices in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Its notable facilities are the Webber Center Gallery and Appleton Museum of Art.
