About Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch
Central Yeshiva is an institute for Torah study that was founded following a need for students to be invited to traditional Orthodox Judaism. During 19th century, the trend of Jewish education was declining and so seeing this, Rabbi Sholom DovBer Schneersohn decided to setup a yeshiva which would study Chabad tradition. It started in 1897 and later found its way into American and was reestablished in this country.
The institute came out of the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement and has a network of institutions around the world in Canada, Europe, South America, South Africa, Australia, and the former Soviet Union, and Israel, educating students in Orthodox Judaism tradition. The institute is based in Brooklyn, New York.
The students that enter the yeshiva with the aim to understand Torah and Orthodox Judaism tradition understand that it is a deep subject that requires commitment. For that the students have campus housing so that they live and connect with faculty and can be involved in intellectual exchange on a higher level. The yeshiva has a small student population which it feels is the biggest advantage for an educational institute, because the students receive their faculties personal. For a rabbinical career, the students are completely engrossed in studies and reflection on the subject through a strict routine at the institute. The classes begin early in the morning after the students have said the prayers. There are afternoon prayers as well and by middle of the day, students go through their lectures and studies taken in the morning. Evening brings prayers and study of Chasidus Hasidic philosophy and the day ends with independent study of public addresses by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn’s.
Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch offers study programs at undergraduate as well as graduate levels. There is a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree program for Jewish/Judaic Studies and Talmudic Studies.
