About Carroll University
Carroll is a Private institute whose origin dates back to 1841 when Prairieville Academy was established. The academy was established by the early settlers in the area and who wanted educational opportunities for their people. By 1846 the academy was officially chartered by the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature and was made into Carroll College. Over the years, the college widened its academic base and hence by 2008 was transformed into a university.
Based in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the college is known as the state’s pioneer college, being the oldest higher education institute established in that area. The institute has also been affiliated with Presbyterian Church USA and so with a Christian rooted values at the foundation, it presses on its students to gain knowledge for leading and transforming local and global societies.
Student life at Carroll is all about students connecting with each and their communities while on their educational journey. There are various activities that students are involved in such as being part of student led activities and organizations; there is Greek Life, political groups, media groups, academic groups as well as special interest groups. Further activities involve students in leadership programs, fostering and developing leadership skills. Community engagement is a significant part and students contribute volunteer hours for organizations such as for Hope Center, FOOD Pantry of Waukesha County, Salvation Army Waukesha, or work for schools or hospitals in the community. There is also focus on spiritual development which takes place through Bible study or other worship activities. The university also has some traditions such as having Bagpipes in the commencement and convocation ceremony and ‘Ringing the Bell’ after a victory by the varsity teams. There are athletics teams as well that participate in NCAA Division III. The campus colors are Orange and White and the mascot is Pio Pete.
Academic programs consist of four Bachelor’s degrees with more than 80 fields of study, seven Masters degree and a doctoral degree program. Its notable facilities are Sneeden House and MacAllister Hall, which are among early 19th and 20th century historic buildings. Others include Steele & Swarthout Hall and Kilgour Hall.
