About California State University-Sacramento
CSUS is a Public university that was founded in 1947; however it’s planning had begun way earlier in 1920. The demand for a four year higher education institute had been raised by the citizens however its demand was put off by the legislation. It wasn’t until the year of its establishment that it was established by the State Senator Earl D. Desmond. Its progress towards the university status finally happened in 1972 as it took on its new name.
It became the 11th oldest institute in CSU System and is situated in Sacramento, California. The university is a spec grant institute and is part of an affiliation with National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, which supports women and minorities in the fields of engineering and computer science. It is also home to 30 research centers including STEM Research, California Smart Grid Center, Sustainable Technology Optimization Research Center and others.
Placed in an urban setting, the 300 acre campus provides a student life abundant in experience as well as education. The Student Organizations & Leadership (SO&L) at the California State University-Sacramento offers more than 300 student clubs and organisations which range from cultural to academic to aesthetic to political to recreational to many more. There is Greek Life and there are leadership initiatives which allow students to have active participation in organising and to develop leadership skills. Students volunteer for activities involving on and off campus partner organisations such as American River Parkway Foundation and others. There is a strong inclination towards arts and students are involved in dance and theatre groups. Students have plenty of recreational opportunities as well as snowboarding, skiing and others. The university has athletic teams ‘Hornets’ that participate at NCAA Division I and has official colors Sac State Green & Hornet Gold. Its mascot is Herky the Hornet.
CSUS has academic programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and consists of 58 undergraduate majors, 41 graduate degrees, six post-baccalaureate certificates and two doctoral degree programs. Its notable facility at the campus is Julia Morgan House and Gardens.
