About California State University-Monterey Bay
A Public university that was founded in 1994, this institute is among the recent additions in CSU system. CSUMB held its first classes a year after it was found, in 1995. Peter Plympton Smith, who was a former United States House of Representatives, was also an education administrator became the founding president of this new addition to the system. The site of Ford Ort was chosen as the campus for the newly developed institute.
The university became the 21st member to the CSU system and when it opened the university became the first institute in history to have received a large population of freshmen, first time students. Since then California State University-Monterey Bay has been on the mission to become a transformative experience for each of the students that join the ranks. It is based in Monterey County, California.
Life at CSUMB is fun filled and exciting bringing every experience and opportunity that is sure to engage each student. To begin with, there are student clubs and organisations, over a 100 clubs to choose from. For those interested in leadership skill development, there are opportunities provided for network development, through workshops or other activities. There is Catalyst Center at the campus which brings volunteering and community and civic engagement opportunities for every individual, resulting in personal development and awareness. The campus has its Greek Life and also some unique traditions such as Otter Days where events are held throughout a week and which takes place in the first week beginning Fall Semester. The university is not without its athletic teams, ‘Otters’ which take part in NCAA Division II and hails campus colors, Bay Blue, Valley Green and Golden Sand.
Academics at CSUMB consist of undergraduate degrees, 24 of them with over 30 minors and 30 concentrations; and eight graduate degree programs. There are also teacher certification programs. These are offered through six colleges. Its prominent facilities are Tanimura & Antle Family Memorial Library and Freeman Stadium.
