About California State University-Fresno
Fresno State is a public research university that was founded in the year 1911. Within a span of ten years, the school transitioned as a teacher’s college in 1921 and it was in 1949 that the major development came. The college received authorization to grant Bachelor degrees and was renamed as Fresno State College. With expansion to its academics, the college relocated and came to its present campus in 1956.
The university is part of the California State University System and was made a part of it in 1961 and by 1972 took on its new name. With diversity as an important factor in its student population and transformation as its main element in education, the institute is committed to bringing change and success to every life connected with it. It is based in Fresno, California.
California State University-Fresno provides a campus life which is a mix of fun, activities as well as education. Student involvement is encouraged through student clubs and groups which offer a variety of interests and activities. Additionally, there are events and programs held at campus, educational and social in nature to further involve students. There are interesting campus traditions such as Final Cram Jams, where activities are held before the finals, helping students with study tips, helping with stress and providing food and games; and there is also Vintage Days which is open to the community as well and calls on everyone to have a fun time, filled with activities and games. Theatre Arts performances are very famous at the campus and so is the Treewalk across the Arboretum, having 100 species of trees. The university has its athletic teams, ‘Bulldogs’ participating at NCAA Division I; the mascot is Victor E. Bulldog and campus colors are Cardinal and Blue.
As for its academic programs, Fresno State offers 66 bachelor’s programs, 44 master’s programs and three doctoral programs. The notable departments are Kremen School of Education and Human Development, Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Lyles College of Engineering and Henry Madden Library.
