Cal State East Bay is a Public university that began in 1957 as The State College for Alameda County. It was established by the state legislature and began instructions after a period of two years, in 1959. Over its entire journey, the institute changed its name multiple times and also relocated. It came to its present location in the year 1963. It was in 1972 that the institute progressed at the university and by 2005 had been given its present name.

It is part of California State University system and it is based in Hayward, California. California State University-East Bay has always remained steadfast in its mission to shaping individuals into responsible citizens and contributing members through intellectual exchange and creative expression.

For students, life at California State University-East Bay starts with orientation, where students and their families interact with the university, the faculty and get introduced around the campus. For the next phase, an intellectually and socially engaging life is offered. There are around 100 student run groups and clubs for every student to pursue their interest. There are additional opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills, through active involvement in not just student organisations but also community engagement, leadership seminars, workshops and other events. The community engagement programs include Pioneers for Change (PfC), The Freshmen Day of Service and others. The university also holds events organised by its Associated Students Incorporated; ASI is also responsible for voicing and working for student interests. The campus has its athletic programs, where its teams ‘Pioneers’ take part in NCAA Division II. The campus colors are Red and Black.

The degree programs offered at the Cal State East Bay consist of undergraduate degrees with 50 Baccalaureate Degrees with 61 Minors and graduate degrees with 35 Master’s Degrees and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. The notable facility with the university is its C. E. Smith Museum of Anthropology.
