CSUCI traces its history to the year 1965 when the State Senator and Assemblyman, Robert J. Lagomarsino and Burt Hansen, respectively raised voices for the establishment of a four year higher education institute. By 1969 CSU bought the land for the future university in the Ventura County however a long journey of ordeal, struggle and debate followed until the university was finally established in 2002.

At present the university is based in Camarillo, California, is a Public institute and is the 23rd university in the CSU system. Located in the beautiful city, as the youngest member of SCU, it based its education on the ‘Four Pillars’ of being multicultural, internationally integrated, intellectually integrative and calling on community involvement.

A fun filled campus, at California State University-Channel Islands students enjoy being with  each other and learning inside as well as outside their classrooms. Student activities and programs are monitored through Associated Students Incorporated, involving students and faculty. Student activites consist of student organisations, more than 40 clubs present on campus; there are student leaderhsip activities as well as celebration of other cultrues and diversity. Students are provided with programs and initiatives that provide outreach with business partners, and bring about economic uplifting through innovation. It works through its Business & Technology Partnership (B&TP) which provides internships as well as scholarships. The unievristy has its unique traditions, such as Carrying the Light of Learning, as an honor to the faculty; Passing through an arch, marking a new phase for the pass outs; and few other as well. The campus colors are Red and Silver.

Program offerings consist of undergradaute and gradaute degree programs that are more than 30. There is a choice of 25 majors and 26 minors. Its prominent facility is the John Spoor Broome Library, named after John “Jack” Spoor Broome, a philanthropsit and the first major benefactor.
