Caltech is a Private university that traces its origins to Throop University which was founded by Amos Throop, a philanthropist in 1891. The university started small, in a rented building with only 31 students and six faculty members. It was in 1907 that George Ellery Hale joined as Broad of Trustees and put the institute into a new direction of research and scientific education. With these changes and many other great men joining the school in its mission over these many years, the university took on its present state and name.

In this new direction, this institute of technology has earned worldwide recognition for its scientific endeavours and research work. With a group of expertise as its faculty, the students find themselves involved in this extraordinary scientific discovery and exploration. The institute is based in Pasadena, California.

California Institute of Technology maintains its focus on its mission for serious and dedicated endeavours in the field of science, technology and research. The institute holds public events which bring out both fun and serious side of the campus life. There are outreach events for K-12 students and there also held are cultural, artistic events and scientific educational programs. Caltech also initiates and encourages sustainability causes through seminars and research weeks. It is also committed to reducing its Green House Gas emissions as well as promoting the causes through LEED certified buildings. There are other traditions too, which are unique to the institute such as its Olive Harvest Festival, which is being held annually since 2007 and where students collect olives for yielding oil, the annual Pumpkin Drops events where students drop frozen pumpkin drops from the library and few more. The campus has also made cameo appearances in many shows as well as movies. The institute is not without its athletic participation at the NCAA Division III. Its mascot is ‘Beaver’ and the colors are Orange and White.

Caltech offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. There are six academic divisions and it offers 26 areas of study in its undergraduate programs and 31 options in its graduate programs. It also offers Executive Education. Its notable facilities are The Kerckhoff Laboratory of the Biological Sciences, Millikan Library and few others.
