Arizona Christian University Seal About Arizona Christian University

A Private yet a nonprofit university, ACU traces its roots to the Southwestern Conservative Baptist Bible College founded in 1960. The land for the newly founded college came from Ida Clouse, a Christian missionary and a nurse who bequeathed her 35 acre ranch upon her death for the purpose of creating a Christian college. From a bible college to a liberal arts Christian university, the university also transitioned towards becoming a non-denominational institute, ending its affiliation with Conservative Baptist Convention in 2009. It is based in Phoenix, Arizona.

The most characteristic part of Arizona Christian University is the spiritual life inducted at the campus. Connection with Christ is considered most important and hence chapel services and a minor in Biblical studies is mandatory for every student. This it believes to be important for developing its students into strong leaders needed in every sphere of life.

ACU has dominant spiritual life, embedded in community services. Most importantly, the university has introduced Daniel Award for Courageous Public Faith as a token for appreciation to those who profess and stand for Christian faith. Moreover, there are student led groups and activities that also involve the faculty. Students and faculty meet in small groups to build on each others. There is a worship area called ‘Student House of Prayer (S.H.O.P.)’ which is always open for students to practice faith. As part of servicing the communities, students lead their own ministry in which they participate in missionary work locally as well as globally. Under its ‘Project 032’ the students volunteer for physical work such as painting and others in the community. The university has its sports team, ‘Firestorm’, taking part in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Its mascot is a Phoenix and the campus colors are Red and Firestorm Yellow.

ACU has eight academic departments in the areas of business, education, music, science, math and others. It offers undergraduate degree along with three pre professional programs and five degree completion programs. There are seven minors also available with the university. The R.S. Beal, Sr., Library at the ACU is considered as a distinctive facility.
