Present day American Sentinel University has resulted through acquisitions of institutes. Although it marks the year 2006 as the day it was founded, it traces its roots to the American Graduate School of Management, founded in late 1990s by CEO of American Sentinel, Rick Oliver. It was in 2005 that an online nursing school was established as Sentinel University while acquiring American College for Computer Information Sciences based in Birmingham, Alabama. By 2006 all these had merged to form American Sentinel University. It is based in Colorado, Denver however it also has offices in Birmingham.

American Sentinel University focuses only at bringing the most innovative and learning focused programs. With the learning outcomes of problem solving, communication and application of ideas and knowledge forming the very core of programs, the university has contributed greatly to the success and career of each of its student s as well as achieving milestones in distance education.

Even though the university is focused on distance education, it has not stopped it from contributing and engaging with the community and people. Some of the organizations supported by the university, through its charity and fundraising are American Cancer Society, Denver Health Foundation, Children’s Tumor Foundation, and Catholic Mission Relief – Ecuador. There are many others that the university contributes to. Besides, the institute is also involved with other institutes, corporations and organizations through affiliations and partnerships in an attempt to provide career and growth opportunities for its students as well as faculty.

The degrees offered at American Sentinel University are Bachelors, Masters, Doctoral degrees as well as Certification Programs. While there is business and other programs offered as well, the majority of the programs offered are Nursing and Healthcare programs.
