About University of Wisconsin-Superior
UW–Superior is a public university that is part of the University of Wisconsin System since it was formed in year 1971. The university traces its beginnings Superior Normal School, which was founded in 1893 as a teacher training institute. It progressed gradually and as it expanded and was granted the status to award graduate degrees in 1947, it became a state college. From there on, by 1964 it transformed into a university.
It is located in Superior, Wisconsin and over the years has emerged as an institute committed to giving back to its communities by preparing the students as leaders and professionals that are morally sound and are knowledge seekers.
University of Wisconsin-Superior offers a vibrant and resourceful campus life for its students offering learning and development opportunities through participation in the various student run organisations. There are also leadership programs offered which are specifically designed to encourage leadership and work as real life leaders for a practical exposure. Students can participate in workshops or earn leadership certifications. Besides the students also have the opportunity to be part of the Yellowjacket Activities Crew organizing events and programs such as musical shows, comedy nights, open mic nights etc. Besides, various other activities and events exist for students to feel part of the campus life such as Friends and Family Weekend, Homecoming, and also Student Involvement Awards and encouraging compassion through Blood drives. The campus also has a student union called Yellowjacket Union which is the student spot for eating and having a good time. There are also plenty of recreational opportunities such as the adventure trips, adventure education, as well as intramurals. There are also campus athletic teams called the ‘Yellowjackets’ competing at NCAA Division III. The official campus colors are Black and Gold.
Academic programs offered at the university are undergraduate programs with more than 60 majors and minors. The notable facilities on the campus are Jim Dan Hill Library, Marcovich Wellness Center, Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse, Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium and few more.
