About University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
UW–Stevens Point is a state university which became part of the University of Wisconsin System in the year 1971 however it has its start as an educational institute in 1984 when it was founded as Stevens Point Normal School for teacher preparation. In 1927 it transformed into a college as it started offering the four year degrees. As it further expanded it added liberal arts education it was made into a state college.
As it became part of the University of Wisconsin System, it came to be known as University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Based in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, the institute has come a long way in building students beyond their potential and in empowering them to be successful, not just as professionals for their fields but inspiring individuals.
The campus life at the university is filled with many resourceful activities and programs that help individuals find their true passion. Students engage in many activities including participation in more than 200 student organisations. The Campus Activities and Student Engagement (CASE) serves as the central organisation providing students with developmental activities such as volunteering for causes and programs such as blood drives and others. It also helps in student employment. There is also the Greek life on campus. Students also actively engage in activities promoting diversity and inclusion on the campus which helps them grow into global citizens. Besides serious work, the university holds many events which bring fun and entertainment to the campus life and two of its traditional events are Welcome Week and Homecoming. The student entertainment organisation on the campus is called Centertainment Productions. The students also take part in campus athletic teams called ‘Pointers’ competing at NCAA Division III. Its mascot is ‘Stevie and Stephanie Pointer’ and its official colors are Purple and Gold.
Academic programs at the university consist of 120 undergraduate programs in 48 majors and 78 minors.
