About University of the District of Columbia
UDC is a public university that has its roots dating back to the year 1851 when a school for girls of colored population was founded by Myrtilla Miner. As it grew into a normal school, by 1879, it was admitted to the DC public school system. It progressed into a state teachers college in 1929. In 1955 it was merged with another state teachers college to become District of Columbia Teachers College.
A merger with two other institutes then led to the formation of University of the District of Columbia in 1977. Based in Washington, D.C., this land grant institute has served as an academic and intellectual hub for transforming the lives of its students into successful leaders and professionals.
