SUNY at Purchase College About SUNY at Purchase College

Purchase College is a four year public institute and traces its beginning in year 1967 when it was founded by Governor Nelson Rockefeller. It was his vision to have an institute which would integrate liberal arts education with creative arts and since then the institute has been a place for creative intellects. Soon after the college opened, it made steady progress in both, the campus as well as student body and academic programs.

It is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and is based in Purchase, New York. From being termed as ‘the cultural gem of the SUNY system’ the college offers education through interdisciplinary approach and aims to widen perspective, induce diversity and allow creativity.

State University of New York at Purchase is a place where education is combined with experiential learning in academic as well as extracurricular activities, at the campus. Students find engagement primarily through student organisations and student run services, of which more than 50 operate on the campus and offer a range of cultural, religious, academic, professional, arts organisations and others. Equally significant is the leadership development on campus and the participation in programs which help students work on their skills; these include working as mentors and advisors, serving as student leaders through Student Government Association including the senate or through leadership courses offered every semester. Additionally students also take part in community service such as actively pursuing Service Learning course, mentoring, educating guiding the youth of the region, taking on civic issues or fighting causes such as hunger. The campus also brings tradition and entertainment through events such as Pancake Madness, Zombie Prom, Cover Show, Culture Shock and more. Students also enjoy taking part in athletics, with teams ‘Purchase Panthers’ competing at NCAA Division III. The campus colors are Heliotrope and Puce.

The academic programs offered at the college are bachelors programs with 47 majors and 42 minors, and five masters degree programs along with post baccalaureate, post masters and other programs. Its notable facility is the Neuberger Museum of Art.
