About SUNY College of Technology at Canton
SUNY Canton is a public higher education residential college that goes back to year 1906 when it was founded as a post secondary two year college and was the first in the state of New York. It started as the agricultural school and by 1941 faced a name change because of expansion in its curriculum. With State University of New York being founded in year 1948, the institute also became a part of it.
It was in year 1987 that the Board of Trustees gave its present name and designation as the SUNY College of Technology at Canton. It is based in Canton, New York and provides affordable education and quality programs for nurturing its students for long lasting careers and successful professionals.
At SUNY College of Technology at Canton, the students find a range of activities which help students in pursuing their interests and reaching their potential. The Student Affairs department helps organise events and activities, arrange resources for learning and creating social awareness, and developing leadership qualities. The students find over 35 student cubs and organisations and also the Greek Life. There is also the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Campus Activities Board which represents student problems and also organizes student activities. Students also get to serve as Residence ambassadors and assistants as well as campus advocates. There is also the campus ministry which provides faith based activities such as serving in temples, churches, mosques etc, prayer activities as well as spiritual gatherings. One unique program that the college employs is the ‘Green Dot Program’ which teaches students the strategies against violence. The students also enjoy taking part in athletics, with its teams called ‘Roos’ competing at NCAA Division III. The official campus colors are Blue, Green and Gold.
At the campus the academic programs offered are 25 bachelor’s degrees, 22 associate degrees, 5 one-year professional, certificate programs and 13 online degrees. Its prominent facilities/departments are Canino School of Engineering Technology, Newell Veterinary Technical Center, Miller Campus Center, Kingston Theatre, and, Kennedy, Heritage, Mohawk, Rushton and Smith Halls.
