Brockport is a public liberal arts institute and a four year college that traces its beginnings to the Brockport Collegiate Institute which was founded by the citizens of the region back in 1835. Eventually it was realised by the academy leadership that there was a need for better trained teachers and so by 1866 it transformed in to a normal school. By mid 20th century, it became a state college.

It was in 1948 that the state college became part of the State University of New York. Based in Brockport, Monroe County, New York, the college has built its education and programs to serve larger purpose than just professional success by engaging its students for achieving excellence and serving their communities.

At the campus of State University of New York College at Brockport, students become part of a vibrant and exciting campus life where students not only learn but celebrate life. Students find interest development through more than 120 student led clubs and organisations including fraternity and sorority life. There are also leadership platforms – from mentorship, and lectures to certificate programs such as Green Certificate or Gold Certificate and others. There is also Seymour College Union serving – a student owned space for holding meetings, activities and programs, or just have a good time relaxing with friends or alone. Students also take part in performing arts by putting up theatrical acts, musical or dance shows and more. Campus events include Polar Plunge, Senior Week, Family Weekend and more. There is community engagement where students volunteer hours through campus organisations or local non profit organisations. These include Alternative Spring Breaks, Gifts of Gratitude, Make a Difference Day etc. For the students, campus recreation consists of intramurals, club sports and athletics at NCAA Division III. The campus colors are Green and Gold and the mascot is ‘Ellsworth’.

The academic programs offered are approximately 50 majors and minors and more than 50 graduate programs. Its notable facilities are Drake Memorial Library, Hartwell Hall, Albert W. Brown Building, Benedict Hall, Bramley Hall, Dobson Hall, Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium and more.
