About Pepperdine University
Pepperdine University is a private non-profit higher education institute located in    Malibu, California. The university was established in 1937 by George Pepperdine in Los Angeles. The college started offering classes in the same year for 167 students coming from 22 different states and 2 countries. The college operated initially at the Vermont Avenue campus which is located in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood. In the following year, George Pepperdine College received accreditation from the Northwest Association. In 1965, the surroundings of the college campus became unsafe due to the increasing rates of crimes as well as the Watts Riots. In 1967, the college decided to start searching for a location to establish a new campus. In 1969, the college was at risk of being burnt by activists of the Civil Rights Movement. The college started construction of the new campus in 1971 on a 138-acre mountainous land donated by the Adamson-Rindge family. The campus and many of its buildings were designed by architec William Pereira. The campus was opened in the same to host students enrolled in the new academic year 1972. The college was reorganized in 1971 converting academic department into separate schools. Accordingly, the college achieved the university status changing its name to the current one. After relocation, the old campus was sold to Crenshaw Christian Center. The campus was at risk of being destroyed by fire several times in 1985, 1993 and 1996. The campus residences were evacuated in 2007 because of fire.
The university campus currently covers 830 acres with several distinctive buildings and facilities including Tyler Campus Center, Payson Library, the Ahmanson Fine Arts Center and William S. Banowsky academic complex. Additionally, the university has several branch campuses offering graduate degree programs as Drescher Graduate Campus,  Graziadio Business School and Graduate School of Education and Psychology.
Pepperdine is divided into 5 colleges and schools including Frank R. Seaver College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences And Graziadio Business School. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
