About Palmer College of Chiropractic
Palmer College of Chiropractic is a private higher education for chiropractic medicine. The college was established in 1897 Daniel David Palmer as the first college for chiropractic in the world. The college was initially named the Palmer School and Cure. Daniel David Palmer is known as the Discoverer of chiropractic and The Founder of the chiropractic profession. In 1907, the school received its charter and changed its name to Palmer School of Chiropractic. In 1961, Daniel’s son, David Daniel Palmer, took responsibility as the president of the school. He became later known as the educator. Three years later, the school was designated as a non-profit institute changing its name to the current one. In 1980, the college expanded by acquiring Northern California College of Chiropractic which is currently the location of Palmer West campus. In 1987, Vickie Anne Palmer was elected as the chairman and became known as the Refiner of chiropractic. In 2000, the college further expanded by establishing a second branch campus in Port Orange, Florida.
The college states that its mission is to prepare the students to become qualified doctors of chiropractic. The main campus of the college is located in Davenport, Iowa. The campus consists of a mixture of historic and modern buildings. Distinctive buildings on campus include David D. Palmer Health Sciences Library, B.J. and Mabel Palmer Residence, Campus Center, Vickie Anne Palmer Hall, Vickie Anne Palmer Hall and the Memorial Building which is the oldest building on campus. The campus also includes the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research which was established in 1995 and is currently the most highly funded research center for chiropractic medicine with annual budget of $5 million. Additionally, the college operates two branch campuses in Port Orange, Florida and San Jose, California. Moreover, the college has Palmer Community Outreach Clinics offering services at low cost or free of charge.
