About Olympic College
Olympic College is a higher education institute located in Bremerton, Washington. The college started offering classes in 1946 under the name of Olympic Junior College. The first class at the college consisted of 575 students with tuition fees of $35 per quarter. In 1948, President Harry S Truman visited the college and was granted the first honorary degree from the college. In 1991, the college received 27-acre land as a donation from Simpson Timber. Two years later, the college received another piece of land covering 20 acres from the Olhava Family. The two locations were used to establish two satellite campuses; the Shelton campus and the Poulsbo campus. In 2012, the Bremer Student Center was used by the Kitsap Admirals as their home venue before moving another location in the following seasons. In 2015, the college was among the top 10 institutes nominated for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.
The college states that its mission is to enrich the diversity of the community by helping the students achieve their educational goals through quality education and support. Olympic main campus covers 33 acres with several distinctive buildings and facilities including Haselwood Library, Michael D. Connolly Facilities Services Building, Robert B. Stewart Education Building and Sophia Bremer Child Development Center. The college athletic teams, who are nicknamed Rangers, compete in the Northwest Athletic Conference. The official colors of the college are red and white.
The college offers bachelor degree programs in 4 different majors. It also has partnership agreements with local universities like Washington State University and Western Washington University offering the students the option to study an associate degree at the college before transferring to one of the partner universities for a bachelor degree. Olympic is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
