Oklahoma Wesleyan University About Oklahoma Wesleyan University

Oklahoma Wesleyan University is a private evangelical Christian higher education institute affiliated with the Wesleyan Church. The university was established by the merge of several former colleges. In 1909, Miltonvale Wesleyan College was established in Miltonvale, Kansas. In the following year, Colorado Springs Bible College was established. In 1959, Colorado Springs merged with Pilgrim Bible College and Holiness Evangelistic, which were founded in 1917 and 1932, forming Central Pilgrim College. In 1968, the latter was renamed Bartlesville Wesleyan College following the merge between the Pilgrim Holiness Church and Wesleyan Methodist Church into the Wesleyan Church. In 1972, Miltonvale Wesleyan College merged into Bartlesville Wesleyan College. In 2001, Bartlesville got its current name as Oklahoma Wesleyan University. In 2015, the university announced its withdrawing its membership from the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities as an opposition to the decision of two member institutes to allow hiring of same sex couples.

The college campus offers several distinctive buildings and facilities including Lyon Chapel and Fine Arts Center, Lewis Alumni Park, Keating Center, Campbell Science Building, Haltom Campus Center, Drake Library, Roberts Fitness Annex, Mueller Sports Center, Piper Hall, Adee Hall, Susanna Wesley Hall and Colaw Hall. The university athletic teams, who are nicknamed the Eagles, compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference as members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The university offers 35 majors. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It has been ranked 74th among the west region according to the U.S. News and World Report.
