OSU-OKC is a public institute and one of the universities of the Oklahoma State University System. The flagship campus of the system was founded in year 1890 in Stillwater, Oklahoma under the Morrill Act of 1862. It started as Territorial Agricultural and Mechanical (A&M) College and as it added various academic programs it began to expand. It also started to add various campuses to the institute.

This university was added as a branch campus to the flagship institute in year 1961 but came to its present condition year 1991. It is based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The university has continued with its tradition of offering academic excellence and a mature well rounded development of its students.

Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City provides meaningful experience to its students at the campus through its learning focused environment. Students participate in the Student Government Association where they learn leadership through practical experience and working for student welfare and campus improvement. There are also other student organisations which enhance the experience further by bringing students of various backgrounds on a single platform through shared interests. The campus also offers Service Learning where students are formally educated and trained in civic engagement and community service through classroom instructions and fairs which are held every semester. Display of commitment towards community development takes place through community service initiatives and events such as Litter Blitzes, mentor programs, working with non profits or participating either as a Big Brother or Big Sister, in churches or in schools. Through SHiNE Program, students who volunteer for programs are recognized for their efforts. The students are also offered career services which helps them be prepared for their future careers as well as connect with prospective employers through career fairs and other similar initiatives. The university official colors are Orange and Black.
