About New York College of Health Professions
New York College of Health Professions is a private non-profit higher education institute. The college was established in 1981 under the name “the New Center for Wholistic Health Education and Research”. It started by offering an intensive college level program in message therapy which was approved by the New York State Board of Education in the same year. The college received its charter in 1984. In 1992, the college introduced a second program in Acupuncture. The message therapy program was recognized as a college degree program in 1996 by the University of the State of New York making it the first program for therapeutic bodywork in the United States. Two years later, the second acupuncture program was also approved as a college degree program. The college gained its current name in 2002. The college received in 2004 a patent for Acupressure Clothing. In the same year, the college applied for accreditation from the New York State Board of Regents and the Commissioner of education. The college underwent an evaluation process starting 2006 and received the institutional accreditation in the following year.
The college states that its mission is divided into research, education and service related parts. It aims at preparing the students to become professional practitioners in their fields by providing them with the required knowledge and skills. It also aims at providing pharmacological services to the community as well as developing new more effective therapeutic methods. New York College has a campus covering 45,000 square feet located in Syosset, New York. Additionally, the college operates 3 branch campuses in New York in addition to operating a 35-acre satellite medical facility located in Luo Yang, China.
The college is currently divided into 4 schools and divisions offering 5 undergraduate and graduate programs. Students may study on part-time or full-time basis. Students may get financial support in the form of scholarships, grants or loans.
