About Mount Mary University
Mount Mary University is a private non-profit Catholic higher education institute for liberal arts. It was established by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1913 making it the first female 4-years Catholic college to be established in Wisconsin. In 1926, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee proposed the relocation of the college to Milwaukee to allow more students to join the college. Construction of the new campus started in 1928 and it was opened in the following year. The name of the college was changed with the relocation to Mount Mary College. It achieved the university status in 2013 changing its name to the current one.
The university states that its mission is support the development of the whole personality of the students. Its campus covers 80 acres with several prominent buildings including Notre Dame Hall and Caroline Hall which are the first buildings to be constructed on campus. Other important buildings include Fidelis Hall, Kostka Hall, Bergstrom Hall, Haggerty Library, Bloechl Recreation Center and Gerhardinger Center which is named in honor of Theresa Gerhardinger of Jesus. The university produces a newspaper called “Arches” which is run by the students. There are several artistic events organized at the university annually including CREO and the Starving Artists’ Show. It also hosts the Historic Costume Collection which includes 9000 pieces in addition to the Marian Art Gallery. The official colors of the university are blue and white. Its athletic teams, who are nicknamed Blue Angels, compete in NCAA Division III.
The university offers more than 30 undergraduate programs in addition to 8 graduate programs. It grants bachelor, masters and doctoral degrees. The university has a partnership agreement with the Medical College of Wisconsin that allows students to earn bachelor and master’s degree in public health within 5 years. The university is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
