Humphreys College Seal About Humphreys College

Humphreys University is a private non-profit university. The school was established in 1875, however, it became more significant when in 1896 when John R. Humphreys, Sr. became the director of the Stockton Business College, Normal School, and Telegraphic Institute. The school was later known as Gas City Business College. In 1920, the name was changed to Stockton College of Commerce after merging with Heald’s Business College. In 1947, the university was declared as a non-profit incorporation in California State. In 1967, the university moved to its current main campus in Stockton. Twenty years later, the university established an additional campus in Modesto. In 1990, a third campus was added however, it was closed in 2001 due to financial difficulties. In 2005, the university had an agreement with the Stockton Unified School District to establish the Institute of Business Management and Law. Four years later, the university started its graduate programs granting Master of Arts in Education. In 2013, the university was not allowed to get financial aid because student loans exceeded the federal standards.

The university campus is located in Stockton, California covering 10 acres with several distinctive sites and buildings as Rowena Walker forum, North and South Courtyards, Jerry Medina Courtyard and Tiered Classroom and the Carcione Courtroom. There is also an additional campus at Modesto. The official colors for the university are gold and purple.

The university offers 9 different undergraduate programs in addition to masters programs, international students programs and a professional program offered by Drivon School of law. Humphreys is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities in addition to special accreditation for the school of law. Students may get financial support by applying to federal financial aid.
