Harrington College of Design About Harrington College of Design

Harrington College of Design is a private school that is owned by Career Education Corporation, a private provider of either campus-based or online postsecondary education that is located in Schaumburg City in Illinois State. Harrington College campus is located in the Loop area, Chicago City. The history of Harrington College establishment returns back to 1931, when Frances Harrington, an interior design professional, traveled to Chicago to give a series of lectures about interior design. She then decided to inaugurate the Harrington Institute of Interior Design when she realized the high interest of the audience in learning interior design. The institute continued growing and Ms. Harrington started awarding interior design diplomas to the qualified students. In 1959, Robert Marks, a former student of Ms. Harrington, led the institute after her retirement. The programs offered in Harrington College expanded to include more design-related programs such as Communication Design or Digital Photography. Consequently, the interior design institute was renamed again to be Harrington College of Design in 2003. Afterwards, the campus location was changed to its new site in 600 S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. Harrington College is gradually ending its operations and will finally close in 2018. It has not admitted new bachelor student since its campus closure in 2015. Harrington College is currently serving only master’s degrees or associate degrees students under the roof of Columbia College till 2018.

Harrington College main campus was a unique one as it was designed in glass and granite acting as a learning laboratory and reflecting the surrounding landscape. The campus consisted of three floor buildings occupying more than 7,500 m2. The campus also comprises a comprehensive library including students’ digital research.

Harrington College offered 4 four-year bachelor degrees. In addition, it is still offering one two-year associate degree and three two-year master’s degrees.
