Florida Atlantic University Seal About Florida Atlantic University

Florida Atlantic University is a public university known as Florida Atlantic or FAU. Its main campus is located in Boca Raton, Florida. In addition, it has five more satellite campuses in Florida located in Dania Beach, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Pierce, and in Jupiter cities. Florida Atlantic was approved to be inaugurated as a State University in 1955 by the Florida Legislature in order to serve the south area of Florida. FAU main campus was first established on Boca Raton Army Airfield whose role was to be the only facility for radar training during the World War II during the 1940s. The university opened its doors for the first time on the 14th of September 1964 then a year later, it opened its student housing in campus. FAU first awarded degree was in 1964 when President Lyndon B. Johnson was granted an honorary doctoral degree. FAU expanded its campuses later on when it inaugurated its second campus as commercial based one in 1971. FAU served as a graduate level educational institute only till 1984, when it opened its undergraduate programs. Afterwards, three campuses have been added in downtown Fort Lauderdale on Las Olas Boulevard, Davie in western Broward County and Dania Beach in 1985, 1990 and 1997 respectively. FAU main campus in Boca Raton occupies the whole area of the Boca Raton airport in addition to 5,860 acres of the surrounding area.

FAU states its mission is to be helping students achieve privilege in high quality education, research, scholarships, intellectual abilities and engagement within the surrounding communities.

Florida Atlantic is ranked by U.S. News & World Report to be the 27th in the list of the most diverse universities in the U.S and also second-tier University in the Best Colleges list. Its community of students is characterized by being diverse in races, origins, and culture.

FAU offers more than 180 undergraduate and graduate degrees in different fields through 10 colleges. In addition, it offers more than 10 distant online degrees.
