About Fairleigh Dickinson University-College at Florham
FDU, a private higher education institute and coeducational was founded in year 1942 by Dr. Peter Sammartino and his wife, Sylvia. It started as a two year college and within a couple of years progressed as a four year education college. With introduction of its graduate degree programs in year 1956 and approval of its status by the New Jersey State Board of Education, it transformed into a university.
The university is presently based in four locations, including its international campuses in Wroxton, Oxfordshire and Vancouver, British Columbia. Its campuses in United States are located in Madison and Teaneck, New Jersey. Commitment to its purpose of educating its communities, the college has become the largest private university in the state.
FDU’s Florham campus was founded in 1958 and since then, this beautiful campus filled with natural beauty has been a center for learning and growth for its students. It is a residential college and offers academic as well as extracurricular activities and programs for the students. The campus offers around 50 student clubs for its students where they find social, recreational or other activities. The campus is also not without its fraternities and sororities. The student centers serves as the hub of student activity where students find coffee house as well as pub to hang out and make new friends or just relax. There are also arts performances as students are involved in theatre, dance groups or musical performances. Some of these include Broadway musicals, Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and others. Some other campus events include comedy shows, spring-break trips, movies, Homecoming festivities and more. Students also celebrate sports and athletics; the campus teams are ‘Devils’ taking part at NCAA Division III. Its mascot is the ‘Ian the Devil’ and the campus colors are Blue and Red.
As for the academic programs at Florham campus, these are over 65 Bachelors degree programs more than 60 minors, more than 55 Masters degree programs and a Doctoral program. Its notable facilities are Ferguson Recreation Center, John and Joan Monninger Center, Florence and Hamilton Twombly Halls, Rutherford Hall and others.
