About Excelsior College
Excelsior College (EC) is a non-profit higher educational institute that is situated at 7 Colombia circle in Albany, New York. EC was first founded in 1971 to offer “The Regents External Degree Program (REX)” by the Board of Regents of New York. Its establishment was funded by both Carnegie Corporation and Ford Foundation. Regents College was then operated by its board from 1984 till 1998. Afterwards, the board of regents awarded the college a permission to run as an independent non-profit educational institute on April, 1998. Regents College name was then changed into its current one “Excelsior College” on the 1st of January, 2001.
Excelsior College has a mission of offering educational facilities for adults through throwing highlights on those who were underestimated in history. The college targets providing students with all means to help them achieve perfection, sincerity, academic excellence, creativity and pliability in serving the community.
EC is highly flexible to accept transferring any credits for transferring students in condition they lie in the curriculum of one of EC offered degrees. EC is considered to be one of the most flexible liberal colleges in credit transfer. EC also offers some analogous exams to CLEP and DSST exams which are known as Excelsior College Examinations (ECE). They are generally considered by many American colleges as an accepted source of credits.
EC offers more than 40 undergraduate degrees and 15 master degrees, in addition to couple of associate degrees, non-credit certificates. EC also offers some of its programs in an online distant learning mode. Excelsior along with Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey and Charter Oak State College in Connecticut, are known as “The Big Three” in the distant learning technology. EC consists of 5 schools which are for Business and Technology, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, Nursing, and Public Service.
