East Central University Seal About East Central University

ECU is a public university offering undergraduate as well as graduate education and which traces its beginning to 1906 when it was founded as a normal school called East Central State Normal School. A product of intense lobbying and growing as per need, by 1919 it was granted permission by the Oklahoma Legislature to offer four year and degree programs. With expansion in its academic disciplines, in 1939 it transformed into East Central State College.

By 1947, the college gained university status and adopted its present name in 1985. It is based in Ada, Oklahoma and is committed to providing a learning environment characterised by inclusivity, diversity, knowledge and innovation empowering students for present day, globally affected societies and professions.

Campus life at East Central University is simple, welcoming but exciting, delivering every resource and contributing to every activity resulting in learning and development. Students find the biggest opportunity to work as leaders and learn service, through participation in the Student Government Association, where they work for student interests and take up on service roles. Students also find serving opportunities in the Campus Activities Board through which they organise and plan events, activities and entertainment for fellow students. These include social, educational as well as recreational events. Learning opportunities also exist in participation in student run organisations, of which more than 50 are present on campus along with the Greek Life. The students also enthusiastically celebrate recreation and athletics as its teams, ‘Tigers’ compete at Great American Conference. The university’s official colors are Orange and Black and its mascot is the ‘Roary the Tiger’.

The academic programs offered at ECU consist of more than 70 degree programs. Its notable departments and facilities are The Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business, Linscheid Library Frank R. Crabtree Sr. Honor Plaza and Kerr Activities Center.
