Dowling College About Dowling College

Dowling was a private coeducational institute that started in year 1968 and has closed its operations since August 2016. The college traces its history back in 1955 when Adelphi University started to offer extension programs in three cities in New York State. As these programs took shape, the university set up the present day college. The college became an independent college and adopted its present name. It was named after Robert Dowling, a city planner and aviator and college’s primary benefactor.

The college was based in Long Island, New York, and had been an accredited institute by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The college since its start has been a prominent contributor towards its community by equipping students with the present day education and a futuristic approach.

Dowling College maintained three campuses, Rudolph Campus, Brookhaven site and Melville Center in the region and each campus was beautifully located for its students to have a great journey to look forward to. The college also provided its students with resources and opportunities needed to develop intellectual excellence and for understanding of an increasing globalised society. It served mostly the residents of the Long Island students but involved them in programs and education which widened their perspective. The college also provided athletic and recreation opportunities for its students. With an athletic complex dedicated to bringing not just physical activities, but instilling professional athletic interest and bringing out the best of talents in the students. The complex had a soccer field, a stadium for baseball and a lacrosse complex. Its athletic teams, ‘The Golden Lions’ participated at the NCAA Division II and the official college campus colors were Blue and Gold.

At Dowling, the academic programs offered consisted of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Organised under four schools, it offered both Bachelors degree programs as well as Master’s degree programs in arts, sciences, business, education and aviation. The prominent of its school was Townsend School of Business.
