Daytona State College About Daytona State College

Daytona State is a public higher education institute that had its beginning as Daytona Beach Junior College established by the Florida Legislature in 1957. By 1965 the junior college merged with Volusia County Community College and with it came a name change as Daytona Beach Community College. Not only did the name change but the college progressed in its academic curriculum as well.

It further progressed as a college in 2008 and came to its present identity as Daytona State College. It is based in Daytona Beach, Florida, and aims to be a comprehensive college offering a multitude of programs with the goal to achieving excellence, creating knowledge and focusing on innovation towards present day challenges and community enrichment.

Daytona State College is a place which allows growth in every sphere of its students’ lives with the campus offering many diversified opportunities for students to seek and develop in their interests. The primary student organisation is the Student Government Association which provides a chance to develop leadership skills and policy making while working to improve overall campus life for the fellow students and bring activities and events to campus. For student success, many of these activities and programs come as formal and informal learning activities. There are also other student led clubs, more than 50 on campus which serve as social and skill development platforms in other areas. There is a unique Global Education program at the campus and which aims to create a more integrated society. It holds multicultural awareness activities and events. Recreational opportunities and activities are given equal importance and the students find fitness and an aquatic center on campus. There are also college athletic teams that take part in NJCAA Region 8. The campus colors are Blue and White and the mascot is ‘Falcon’.

The academic programs at Daytona State consist of over 100 certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree program. Its prestigious departments/facilities are Mori Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary Management, and Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment and Art.
