Brooklyn is a public institute and part of the City University of New York System since 1961. It was founded in the year 1930s and was the first liberal arts institute of the system when it was established. As a free public education institute, it was founded for the individuals coming from immigrant families and working classes. It was in 1981 that the college making changes to its existing course work adopted the present day liberal arts curriculum.

Brooklyn College is based in Brooklyn, New York City and has always been adaptive to the changing needs of its people and communities. It has integrated innovation, creativity and technological developments into its programs and education making it among the best for personal and professional success.

The campus life at Brooklyn is full of opportunities and energy, and allows students to gain experience in cultural, academic, political, recreational and social activities. There are over a hundred student led clubs and organisations serving as learning units and acting as social bridge among students. These organisations also include governance organisations which act as student leadership and student representation with the faculty and the staff and work for overall improvement among relations and help remove any grievances. The Student Center also makes a great place to play games and enjoy watching television with friends. One of the most active campus spots is the 24/7 Library Café, which offers coffee and plenty of space for students to meet and have a good time. Students are also part of community service projects such as the Voter Empowerment Project and also take time out to focus on career building through network development both on and off campus. The college also has its athletic teams, called ‘Bulldogs’ at NCAA Division III, with campus mascot being ‘Bulldog’.

The academic programs offered at Brooklyn include 83 undergraduate programs and 71 graduate programs including degree programs. Its notable facilities are Murray Koppelman School of Business, Woody Tanger Auditorium, Morton and Angela Topfer Library Café, Leonard & Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts, James Hall, Boylan Hall and others.
