Colorado State University-Fort Collins Seal About Colorado State University-Fort Collins

A Public research university, CSU began in the year 1870, before Colorado was made into a state, as Colorado Agricultural College. As Colorado attained statehood in the year 1876, it was put under State Board of Agriculture by the state legislature. This Board is now known as the Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System. It was in 1950s that the college achieved university status.

In the year 1957 it was took on its present name. Colorado State University is based in Fort Collins, in Colorado and brings an exciting mix of tradition yet progress in its education and also in its community. It was established under the Morrill Act of 1862 and is a land grant institute.

Campus life at CSU forms a major part of student experience as they find themselves involved in many extracurricular activities. To begin with, there are over 500 student organisations, offering a variety of areas and interests for student participation. Students interact and also learn how to organise and lead within those clubs. Finding a connection with each other, students further collaborate with each other through participation in Learning Communities where they gather as groups to assist each other outside the academic environment. These serve as friendly sessions. Living at the campus, over their journey students develop connections with each other, spend their time like a family and also serve as useful network even after graduation. Sports and recreation are also very dominant among students. There are sports clubs as well as intramural sports. There are also university athletic teams, called ‘Rams’ which take part in NCAA Division I. The campus colors are Green and Gold and its mascot is CAM the Ram.

Academic programs offered at CSU consist of undergraduate programs with 74 majors, 79 minors and 137 concentration choices, in a variety of fields made up into seven academic departments. It also offers Honors programs. Its notable departments and facilities are Warner College of Natural Resources and Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering, Lory Student Center, James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital Ammons Hall, Spruce Hall, Morgan Library and more.
