Claremont McKenna College Seal About Claremont McKenna College

CMC is a Private liberal arts college that was founded in 1946. It was established as Claremont Men’s College as the WWII ended and the sole purpose was to educate the returning war veterans in economics, international affairs as well as government affairs. With G.I. Bill established, the college grew and became popular and by 1976 turned coeducational.

In 1981 the college was renamed after Donald McKenna as Claremont McKenna College. CMC is based in Claremont, California and is part of the Claremont Colleges, a seven college system modelled after Oxford University, England. With its focus on research and modern day education, the college has made students into productive individuals with successful career paths.

Student life at CMC is as much about student engagement and activities, as it is about academics. There are more than 40 different student clubs and organisations that students are part of. Students also take part in helping new students by volunteering and participating in the New Student Mentoring Programs. There are also civic engagement projects where students serve the homeless or the underprivileged with food and other necessities. There are also Blood Drives and a CARE Center at the college where students innovatively take part in dialogue as well as study for more social inclusion and talking about differences. For the facilitation of its staff as well as students, there is also a Bike Shop, student run, which is aimed at making mobility easy for all by renting bikes. There are opportunities for recreation and athletics at the Roberts Pavilion. There is fitness center as well as athletic center. The college’s athletics teams are ‘Stags and Athenas’ and take part in NCAA Division III. The campus colors are Maroon and Black.

The college offers undergraduate programs with 32 majors and 14 5-College major choices. It also offers Accelerated, and Joint or Dual Degree Programs. Its prestigious departments and facilities are Robert Day School of Economics and Finance, Roberts Pavilion, Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, Kravis Center,  W. M. Keck Science Department, Honnold/Mudd Library, Scripps Performing Arts Center, Seaver Theater Complex, Huntley Bookstore and a few more.
