Centenary University About Centenary University

A Private liberal arts college Centenary was founded by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1867. At the time, it started as a preparatory school for both men and women and so began its journey towards becoming a progressive, four year higher education institute.  The institute went through many phases serving as institute for women to finally becoming a master degree granting institute in 1995. It went ahead and transformed itself as a university in 2016.

Based in Hackettstown, New Jersey, Centenary University has always upheld its mission of imparting knowledge and preparing not just professionals but individuals of a more culturally diverse global society. With its strong values of understanding, responsible decision making, the institute became the first institute in the state that puts service education as graduation requirement.

For students at Centenary, education crosses the walls of the classrooms. Students interact with each and participate in various activities for social integration. There are various clubs or organizations that students can be part of or start their own. There are interesting events which are not just fun but also have a purpose, that is to serve the communities; there is Community Plunge where students take a day off and volunteer for community work and Midnight run, where students go out every Friday to serve food and provide clothing and hygiene facilities to those in need. All this makes students into better and active citizens. The university further acknowledges student efforts through Student Leadership Awards Ceremony, where student achievements are celebrated. However with all this, preparation for a great career isn’t forgotten; there is Career Development Center which helps students in paving way and in excelling their career. Recreation opportunities exist as the university’s athletic teams take part in NCAA Division III. The campus colors are Blue and Grey.

Centenary offers programs at both undergraduate and graduate level which include 52 study choices, including minors. It provides Master’s and Doctoral programs under four fields of study.
