About Carlos Albizu University
A Private and Non Profit university, CAU started when it was founded in 1966 as Instituto Psicológico de Puerto Rico. The institute at that time was set up considering the need for focused education in clinical psychology and so initially offered just that. There was shortage of mental health education and especially those adjusted to the socio cultural demands of the region. It was Dr. Carlos Albizu-Miranda who established the institute and who in 1980 also founded the Miami Institute of Psychology in Miami, Florida.
The two institutes merged under a new name, in 2000 and came to be known as Carlos Albizu University, named after the founder. It is a multi campus institute with campuses in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Miami, Florida. With its education it responds to the evolving challenges at national as well as international levels, with an understanding of social responsibility and sensitivity of human nature.
For students, life at CAU begins with programs, activities and events of social, interactive as well as educational in nature bringing students of all interests together. There are student clubs and organizations, which through active participation of students in various interests and issues prepare students for a real world challenge. There are science clubs, military clubs, diversity organizations, and also honor society. To further encourage its students to excel at studies, tutoring services are offered to the students as a way to further eliminate any other obstacles and to pick up those falling behind. Education is further complemented through practical training. Currently, there are three clinics present on two of its campuses. The campuses located in cities which are vibrant and rich in history also offer a very active off campus life. Students find many activities to be involved in.
Academics at CAU consist mainly of degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels. There are 12 Bachelors degree programs, 10 Masters programs and five Doctoral programs. There are few other graduate certificate and business and other program. Its prominent facilities are Goodman Psychological Services Center and Albizu Clinic.
