About Cardinal Stritch University
Stritch is a Private university that was founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi. It came to existence as it was chartered by the state of Wisconsin and began as St. Clare College. Its name change to Cardinal Stritch first happened in 1946 and it was given after former Archbishop of Milwaukee, Samuel Cardinal Stritch. It became co educational, completely in 1970 and by 1997 its university status received approval.
It is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but also provides its course offerings in other locations as well in Milwaukee, Madison and Brookfield. The traditions with the university are placed in Franciscan values. With its continued affiliation with the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, the students are provided education for development of reasoning and search of knowledge for the mission of God.
The university experience at Stritch is composed of every inside classroom and outside classroom activities and programs that improve student perspective. The students have over 30 student run clubs of varied interests and skills to choose from and be part of. For more active participation, there are student leadership opportunities such as working at The Bean, becoming community assistants or helping with student orientation. Further student activities involve working for their communities. The students are mainly involved in St. Benedict’s Meal, feeding the hungry or Habitat for Humanity, working for the homeless. Understanding the hard work that students have to face, the university also brings academic support for those in need. Writing and tutoring services are offered in areas such as languages, English, maths, social sciences and others. With its religious foundation, the students are encouraged to be part of campus ministry for prayer and worship. It also has athletic participation at NCAA Division II, by its teams ‘Wolves’. Its official colors are Cardinal and White.
The academic offering at Stritch consists of more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered through its five schools and colleges. The most prominent departments are the Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing and Health Sciences and Joan Steele Stein Center for Communication Studies/Fine Arts.
