About Canisius College
Canisius was founded in 1870 by the German Jesuits. Most Rev. John Timon, C.M, the first Bishop of the city proposed the establishment of such an institute. He realized that the population in the region consisted mostly of the German speakers but the area lacked in German speaking priests. The institute began with a six year curriculum preparing students for professional schools in the field of medicine, law and divinity.
With approval in its power to award degrees and as the institute made its move towards academic expansion, in 1897 it was made into a separate college, Canisius College. Today, it is a Private college based in Buffalo, New York and named after St. Peter Canisius. It remains true to its Catholic, Jesuit tradition while also incorporating modern educational opportunities.

There are more than 100 clubs and organisations present at campus which have something of interest for every individual. Besides there are other events held at campus to indulge students for social interaction and fun learning such as Writers Series, Family Weekends or theme nights in the Palisano Pavilion. Students are further supported through guidance in their academic journey; academic and career achievements are ensured through Griff Center. Students put their spirituality and faith into perspective through campus ministry international trips, or by working in the local community projects or activities, for those in need. The college has its unique events and traditions which are Christmas in the Quad, Petey’s Birthday Party held before basketball game, Community Day and others.
