About California State University-San Bernardino
The present day public university was established through the act of legislation in 1960 as San Bernardino-Riverside State College. The preparations for the college began and so by 1963 the site for the college was chosen and the name was officially changed to California State College at San Bernardino. It was in 1965 that the college held its first classes. It wasn’t until 1984 that the college transitioned as a university and adopted its present name.
CSUSB is a space grant university. It houses the Murillo Family Observatory which is the teaching and research observatory in the CSU System, consisting of two telescopes used in undergraduate research as well as for public viewing.
California State University-San Bernardino is known for a campus life that provides its students every resource and opportunity to be involved socially and academically. It has over 100 student clubs and organisations that invite students to explore all fields and interests. There is thriving arts culture, with music festivals, ensembles and dance and theatre performances. The university also has its Associated Students Incorporated, ASI which brings student events and provides resources such as grants and internship opportunities. Physical activity is encouraged among students through recreation and sports; outdoor activities include kayaking in the bay, snowboarding and more. The university has its athletic teams, ‘Coyotes’ that take part in NCAA Division II. Its mascot is Cody the Coyote and the official colors are Blue and White.
Academically the university offers undergraduate and graduate programs. It has over 70 baccalaureate and master’s degree programs, education credential and certificate programs; and a doctoral program. It consists of six colleges and its prominent facilities and departments include Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, John M. Pfau Library (named after the university’s first president) and Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art.
