California State University-Northridge About California State University-Northridge

CSUN is a public university that was founded in 1958; however, its preparations had begun much earlier. It was initially in 1952 that the efforts begin to introduce this new institute as a satellite campus to the then California State University, Los Angeles. However, in 1958, the college diverted from its original plan and was named as San Fernando Valley State College. In 1968 the college finally transitioned as a university and came to adopt its present name.

California State University-Northridge is based in Northridge, California. It has grown into a hub of student development and individual welfare. It brings education in liberal arts and sciences, with a focus on experiential learning opportunities and technological integration.

The students at CSUN enjoy a vibrant and healthy social life at the campus. To support their concerns and promote social life, the student union brings events such as Matador Nights, a dance and dinner event; Carnaval which celebrates global cultures, and more. Further involvement with each other on the campus is promoted through student clubs and organisation, more than 300 present on campus. Additional to it are the fraternities and sororities. The Valley Arts Performing Center drives the arts culture at the campus bringing performances for education and entertainment purposes. For students to become active in the concerns outside of campus and be engaged in community service, volunteer projects are arranged such as AIDS Walk, Campus Clothing & Food Drive, Adopt-A-Family for Thanksgiving and few others. Sports and athletics are equally important; its teams participate at the NCAA Division I. Its mascot is Matty the Matador and its colors are Red and White.

The academic programs offered at the university are 68 baccalaureate degree programs, 58 master’s degree programs, two doctorate programs and 14 teaching credential programs. The university has nine colleges and the most prominent ones are Michael D. Eisner College of Education, David Nazarian College of Business & Economics and two more.
