About California State University-Los Angeles
A public and a land grant institute, Cal State LA was established in 1947 by the California legislature and it was named as The Los Angeles State College (LASC). Within a span of two years, the college was made changes to and was given a new name, The Los Angeles State College of Applied Arts and Sciences. The name change continued even after the college became part of the CSC system. It came to its present name in 1972 when it also progressed into a university.
It is situated in University Hills, Los Angeles and is proud of it having one of the most diverse student populations in all of the country’s higher education institutes. Considering itself as a contributing member of the community, it has dedicated itself to producing individuals who are not only advanced in their career preparation but also in their moral and global responsibilities.
Campus life at the California State University-Los Angeles is pretty much filled with every unique and interesting experience which is sure to add to the overall student experience. The institute has its set of student organisations, more than 120 which also include fraternities and sororities. These invite student with every interest to be involved socially. There are other events and trips arranged at the campus and some traditional ones are Mardi Gras, Harvest Festival, Moonlight Breakfast and others. The students also enjoy a musical environment at the campus through various performances which are also displayed through its Talent show. There are also community involvement activities, called Eagles Care, where students volunteer for various causes, with students going to trips every Friday outside campus. There are leadership activities and hence Student Leader Awards which recognizes exceptional students for their skills and achievement. Its athletic teams, ‘Golden Eagles’ participate at NCAA Division II with colors Black and Gold.
The program offerings at Cal State LA include undergraduate and graduate programs; 129 Bachelor’s, 112 Master’s and 3 Doctoral. It also offers 22 teaching credentials. Its prominent department and facilities include Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services and John F. Kennedy Memorial Library.
