About California State University-Long Beach
CSULB is a public, space grant institute that was established in 1949 and held its first classes the same year. It was named as Los Angeles-Orange County State College. Within a year, the college had relocated to its permanent campus and had come to known as Long Beach State College. The California state legislature went through restructuring in 1967 and as the college transitioned as a university in 1972, it took on its present name.
The university is the third largest in the CSU system and aims to become a globally integrated higher education institute providing modern education. With its academic programs and a thriving culture of creativity on campus, the university prepares students to be responsible and globally engaged citizens. The university is situated in Long Beach, California.
The campus life surrounding students at California State University-Long Beach is filled with activities and events for the students to be engaged with each other besides academics and outside the boundaries of their classrooms. There is Greek Life for students as well as centers and organisations. The Associated Students, Inc. brings events such as movie nights and organizes activities such as lobby Corps. It also brings community involvement activities including Blood Drives. There is women support center which looks after various issues, important being sexual harassment and inequality concerns. There are also sports club and recreational activities organised at the campus. The university also celebrates its athletic culture quite enthusiastically as well, its teams take part in NCAA Division I, the campus colors are Black and Gold and the mascot to the institute is Prospector Pete.
Academic programs at CSULB consist of 81 baccalaureate degrees programs, 67 master’s degree programs, and three doctorate programs. Its prominent marks on the campus are Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden and Walter Pyramid, the popular sporting complex at the university.
