CSUB is a public university that initially began in 1965 as a college, called California State College, Bakersfield. The history for the college goes back to 1950s when citizens started insisting for a four year educational institute to be established in the region. With the resting place for the university decided and transformed into a bill and passed by the state legislature, the college held its first classes in the year 1970s.

The college was further supported by the establishment of the CSU system through Donahoe Higher Education Act of 1960 of which the university is presently part of. The university further elaborated itself on providing academic engagement through personalised student experience and involving diversity, community service and global integration. It is based in Bakersfield, California.

On its 375 acre campus, California State University-Bakersfield provides every resource for its students to be intellectually active. There is Office of Student Involvement, which organizes student groups and organisations, more than 90 of them ranging from sports, academic to all other kinds of interests. There is also Greek life on campus. There is LEADER Program which aims at development of leadership and other professional skills. To ensure its student life at the campus is safe, healthy and engaging, the university also has Campus Programming which involves faculty as well as staff on campus, to plan and regulate student activities and events. This of CSU institute also brings Children’s Center, which provides a relaxing but safe environment for children to learn and grow. It also engages in community service through volunteering and community projects. The CSUB Fight Song and Alma Mater are a tradition at the campus. It has athletic teams participating at the NCAA Division I and the campus colors are Blue and Gold. Its mascot is a ‘Roadrunner’.

Academic programs at CSUB consist of over 50 Bachelor’s as well as Master’s Degree programs through four of its schools of arts, humanities, sciences, business, social sciences and others. Its prominent facility is the Walter W. Stiern Library.
